FOUNDER’S MESSAGE
As we continue to provide children with authentic and realistic cultural experiences we have discovered that a hand-on opportunities enhance the message that ‘different is different, not better or worse. in a very meaningful way. Decades of social science research tells us that the more children are exposed to diverse people, places and traditions the less likely they are to become biased and bigoted-two important factors in bullying.
Therefore, we are pleased to announce our first live event-The Global Birthday Party. This event is part of the As Simple As That group of products- an innovative organization devoted to educating and entertaining children and their parents.
With programming designed to appeal to all families with children between the ages of 3 and 8, all As Simple As That® programs directly addresses the needs of a burgeoning broad audience: multi-racial and multi-cultural families with its universal messages: celebration of diversity and tolerance at home, in the neighborhood and in the community at large.
I founded As Simple As That® to fill the great need for intelligent and sensitive material designed for families. Soon after my Chinese daughter and I became a family in 2000 I realized the urgency to provide an empowering set of role models for children whose race and ethnicity differ from other members of their families-AND- provide material for all children who are living in an ever-increasing diverse world.
I was frustrated by the lack of quality material and the absence of any ongoing programming that featured identifiable characters that would speak directly to the needs of today’s kids, so I set out to create such an enterprise myself.
As Simple As That® is the result.
Whether in print via award-winning books, online or in person via the Global Birthday Party appealing and enlightened characters as well as a broad range of services teach children to respect their own uniqueness while understanding the ways in which they are similar to children of other races and heritages.
My vision is straightforward and ambitious-I want to eliminate bias, bigotry and bulllying by helping children build the self-esteem necessary to navigate and celebrate their own unique place in the world.
With Respect and Gratitude,
Deb
