Decades of social science research has found that diverse classrooms and communities improve children’s experiences through more realistic representations of the world around them, increase opportunities for authentic civic engagement and increase social interaction between members of different racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.  That’s a fancy way of saying that our kids are less likely to become biased, bullied or tolerate bullying of any sort if they are exposed to diverse people as early as possible—without any editorial from the adult ‘peanut gallery.  And that translates in happier, healthier and more successful kids!

As adults, you know books are a very powerful medium. Children learn from fairy tales, fables, storybooks and oral traditions — everything from ancient mythology to Dr. Seuss and other friends. Thus, little girls, like Cinderella, wait for their prince to come and make their life wonderful. Boys want to go off and slay giants, much like Jack and the Beanstalk or larger-than-life heroes in Greek and Roman mythology. Books are a proven way to influence a child’s worldview and ideas about place within society. They also help children form concepts of right and wrong, as well as raise awareness of societal issues.

A brief description of Bo’s books:
Families Are Forever -Rain meets her lovable companion Bo and her new “forever” Mom and they become a brand new family. In this heartwarming story about family love and beginnings, Rain discovers that there are many kinds of families and that all families are forever.
Tooth Fairy Tales-Rain and her friends learn about the fun and unique ways in which cultures from all over the world celebrate new teeth. In other countries, the tooth fairy may be anything from a moon to a sparrow and teeth may be put in a mouse hole or be thrown above the roof of a house. But no matter what cultural customs are racticed, celebrating new teeth is always a blast!
Dumplings Are Delicious-Rain and her friends discover that dumplings come in all shapes, sizes, fillings, colors, and names, but that dumplings from every culture taste delicious! Dumplings are all unique and no matter where they come from or how they look, they are all special-just like people.
